  • Work with multiple students with a wide range of abilities

    Stories can range from just a single page with few words and a picture, to stories with many pages and pictures and many words to a page. Predictive text is available to help with typing stories but can be turned off if desired.

  • Use your own pictures, videos or sound effects to create high-interest social stories which can be directly from the student's world

    These can be in a wide range of formats including the new high efficiency codecs.

    Or use pictures included in the database or from the internet.

  • Includes databases of words with sound but you can add your own words

    The New Zealand English database has over 25,000 words (other languages have different numbers of words).

    StoryMaker makes it easy to add words and record the sounds for them including different sound forms for any word.

  • Create word sets for each student to help them create their own stories

    Options to show thumbnails for set words and/or have the word spoken on mouse-over. Words from a set are inserted into a story by clicking or dragging and dropping.

  • Add videos or sound effects to any page and select a section to be used

    These are played after a page is completed when listening to a story or clicking on the words or recreating a page. Greatly aids comprehension and motivation when working with books.

  • Work with a story

    For example: Listen to it being read, click on words as requested, recreate the pages (the beginning of writing), students can record themselves reading pages and compare it with StoryMaker doing it. There is an option to type what is on a page.

    Stories can be exported or imported, printer or saved as PDF files

  • Create activities to expand knowledge and develop comprehension

    Many different types of activities can be created with each story, including dragging in words, pictures or sounds in response to an instruction, dragging words into text to match a picture, video or sound, typing in an answer to a question, dragging words into the right order ...
